Culture in Action

One of Acquia’s most important initiatives is navigating our journey to become a more inclusive, well-rounded and supportive workplace for all. We’re seeking opportunities for community outreach, education and building a more supportive environment for everyone across our global workforce. Here are some ways we’ve been taking action to learn and improve our culture both within Acquia and the greater community.

#DareToBeDifferent: An Educational Forum for Black History Month

February is Black History Month, an annual celebration of achievements by Black history-makers. As part of our ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion, we created a series of Black history resources in Acquia Academy. This micro-learning series focused on highlighting significant historical achievements and notable quotes by Black individuals. Acquia’s Employee Resource Group, the Acquia Alliance of Black Leaders for Excellence (AABLE) also provided interactive learning opportunities, such as a Black History virtual scavenger hunt and a lunch-hour discussion for Acquians to reflect on these materials. The discussion included conversation and activities related to important social issues such as the intersectionality of racial justice.

This month, we also continued our Diversity in the Workplace Program, a combination of e-learning and virtual workshops to help recognize and manage behaviors that can undermine individuals and teams. These seminars promote positive actions managers can take to create a culture in which everyone has opportunities to thrive.

#CommittedToAwesome Work-from-Home Well-Being

As a part of continued support for our employees during COVID-19, our EMEA team recently hosted a Zoom Lunch and Learn session with Mike O'Hara on "Winning Ways for Wellbeing." As a Training Development and Standards Manager for the Royal Air Force, Mike O’Hara is a passionate well-being advocate and the founder of employee well-being company Start Within. Mike also co-hosts The Happy Employee Podcast.

In his session, attendees discussed the potential effect of the pandemic on our mental health and the impact of stress, anxiety and loneliness amidst the uncertainty. The goal of this conversation was to empower Acquians with useful coping mechanisms and relaxing activities that can boost well-being while working from home. Like many of our regional programs, we posted the recorded session internally so all global employees can benefit from the information.

One of our favorite stress-busting activities? Yoga! On February 19th, the India team hosted a virtual yoga session in the afternoon to help Acquians get their bodies moving through a series of stretches and breathing exercises.

Another great way to relieve stress is through fun, team-bonding events where colleagues can get-to-know each other beyond work. As part of a quarterly social series of fun activities, we hosted “The Go Remote: Virtual Game Show!” This series of group games encouraged Acquians to test their trivia prowess and learn more about each other. From icebreakers, to pictionary, to lip sync challenges, Acquians had a blast letting loose with some healthy competition.
