L3Harris is an agile global aerospace and defense technology innovator, delivering end-to-end solutions that meet customers’ mission-critical needs. The company provides advanced defense and commercial technologies across air, land, sea, space and cyber domains, bringing speed, innovation and flawless execution together with its commitment to make the world more secure.

The Situation

L3Harris needed to transform its current platform in order to position itself as the global leader in the aerospace market. But the platform had to do much more; it also needed to unify two companies after a merger and deliver exceptional customer experiences. Additionally, the L3Harris team wanted design and integrations that would aid in talent recruitment and optimize marketing and sales objectives — including gaining better insights into their varied customer base and improving awareness of their solutions with stronger content and storytelling capabilities.

The Challenge

Lauded as a “merger of equals,” the union of L3 Technologies and Harris Corporation required partner FFW to unify 200 business units spanning multiple brands onto a single platform. But privacy and security limitations within the aerospace industry curtailed some desired technologies and features. Additionally, between the discovery phase and beginning development, the coronavirus pandemic hit the U.S., disrupting the momentum of the in-person collaborations and forcing a pivot to digital communications. 

The Solution

Acquia Cloud Platform’s ease of use, suite of solutions and ability to scale to the right size for the organization make it the perfect platform for this large digital transformation initiative. FFW conducted discovery workshops in order to gain stakeholder insights, determine the platform and digital presence’s current state, and identify the objectives, use cases and business cases for the next iteration. Working with a cross-functional team spanning strategy consulting, experience design, analytics and development, FFW and L3Harris attacked challenges and worked toward objectives with strategies that complemented each department’s needs. 

The Results

L3Harris now has the tools and technologies needed to manage its digital experience beyond launch. The company’s internal teams, previously running on Drupal 7, are being trained to independently run and innovate their site on a Drupal 8 platform that will empower informed, strategic decision-making and an exceptional digital experience for customers and prospective talent.
