Drinking Our Own Champagne: How Acquia’s Marketing Team is Leveraging Drupal AI to Scale
Collection :
In the fast-paced world of digital marketing, "efficiency" isn't just a buzzword—it’s a survival mechanism. At Acquia, we believe in testing our products in the real world before we ask our customers to do the same. That’s why our digital marketing team has been hard at work integrating Drupal AI directly into our daily workflows on Acquia.com.
We aren't just building AI tools; we are using them.
By leveraging the new Acquia AI Provider (which simplifies the setup, though Drupal AI allows you to swap in almost any LLM of your choice), we have rolled out three primary use cases that are already transforming how our content editors work.
Here is an inside look at how we are using Drupal AI today.
1. Scaling Global Reach with Automated Translations
One of the biggest bottlenecks for global brands is localization. We wanted to expand our supported languages—specifically into Japanese, French, Spanish, and Portuguese—without slowing down our publication velocity.
We integrated Drupal AI directly with the Translation Management Tool (TMGMT) to create a seamless workflow.
- How it works: Content editors can translate a piece of content into any of our four target languages with a single click.
- The "Human-in-the-Loop": Crucially, the AI doesn't just publish the content. It places the translated node into a Draft state. This triggers a workflow for our regional team members to review and validate the nuances of the translation before it goes live.
This hybrid approach gives us the speed of AI with the quality assurance of native speakers.
2. The Smart WYSIWYG: Content Generation & Tone Control
We wanted to bring AI to where the editors actually live: the WYSIWYG editor. We’ve equipped our team with a plugin that acts as a co-pilot during the content creation process.
Editors can now use the WYSIWYG to generate new content, summarize existing text, or translate snippets on the fly. However, the standout feature is Tone Adjustment.
We know that talking to a developer requires a different voice than talking to a CMO. We established 5 distinct brand tones based on our typical customer profiles. As editors create content, they can instantly adjust the copy to match the specific audience they are targeting, ensuring our brand voice remains consistent but relevant.
3. Accessibility Made Easy: Alt Text Generation
Accessibility is a non-negotiable part of modern web development, but manually writing Alt Text for thousands of assets can be time-consuming. We utilize a combination of Acquia DAM and the native Drupal Media Library. Inspired by the seamless functionality we observed in Acquia Source, we implemented a feature that generates descriptive Alt Text for images the moment they are entered into the Media Library. Powered by the Acquia AI Provider, this ensures that our visual content is accessible to all users without adding a heavy manual burden to our creative teams.
The Verdict?
Since rolling these features out, the stability and ease of use have been impressive. The integration of the Acquia AI Provider made the setup process incredibly smooth, allowing us to move from "concept" to "live on Acquia.com" quickly. And we are just getting started. We have an exciting roadmap planned for Q1 to further push the boundaries of what Drupal AI can do for digital marketers.
