Acquia Canada: Outlook for 2020 and Beyond

Acquia Anchored In Canada

Acquia is extremely pleased to report that the adoption of our cloud-first DXP capabilities are accelerating across our core verticals of financial services, high tech, education and government, while interest from automotive, manufacturing and CPG is rapidly materializing.

Since we last provided this update in 2017, Acquia has expanded its world-class customer base in Canada to include top organizations like Videotron, Purolator, Ontario WSIB, CNESST, the cities of London, Ottawa and Surrey, among dozens of others.

“Acquia adoption in Canada two years ago was mostly reserved to early adopters and the early majority. Today, we find that Acquia’s DXP is systematically shortlisted by the marketing and digital executives of the brands we accompany through their digital transformation”, said Alex Coté, SVP Technology, Cossette.

Canadian Government 2.0

The Government of Canada (GC) is doing its part by modernizing the way GC selects, adopts and maintains technology. This was articulated in the recently published Digital Operating Playbook (DOP)

By expressly mandating Federal guidelines look first to the cloud and to open source, Treasury Board is encouraging Federal Agencies and Crown Corporations to look beyond the traditional, proprietary, legacy software vendors that have historically had a stranglehold on GC procurement processes dating back to the 1990s. This will be a lasting legacy from Justin Trudeau's first mandate.

The playbook closes the gap with standards set in Australia, United States, India and the UK. This new direction is akin to what the Obama Administration did with the creation of 18F (GSA)  and the Federal Cloud Computing Strategy. These policies had long-lasting impacts on federal, state and municipal digital transformations by contributing to making open source an irreversible standard for government agencies -of all sizes- across the United States.

Dries Buytaert, Drupal founder and Acquia CTO, explains: “The Canadian government’s acknowledgement, acceptance and promotion of Open Source, notably Drupal, including cloud delivery will modernize technology standards: increasing competition improves agility, lowers costs and fosters transparency.  I have seen this story play out countless times over the years. This is a great thing for Canadian citizens.”

Acquia’s Strong Partner Ecosystem

Across Canada, Acquia is doubling down on its ecosystem of agency and development partners to deliver big picture results for clients. Whether its business transformation, commerce activation, journey management, experience design, product design or digital marketing and strategy, Acquia recognizes that no one does this better than its stable of skilled, certified partners.

Acquia will continue investing in its partner ecosystem through skills enablement, co-marketing and co-selling. The success of Acquia’s go-to-market rests on the fact that partners are squarely viewed as an extension of the local sales and operations team. Among the partners the Acquia team is making the most noise with going into 2020 include Accenture, Bounteous, Cofomo, Cossette, Digital Echidna, Domain 7, Mirum (WPP), MRM (McCann), Nurun (Publicis), OPIN and Symetris

“Acquia maintains that no one is better placed to manage the last mile of digital experience than our partners, whose core business it is not only to break and reinvent the glass, but also to support the resulting operating model and continue identifying new opportunities for years to come.” explained Joe Wykes, SVP Channels at Acquia. “We love the energy we are seeing coming out of our Canadian partners.”

“Acquia’s unique partnership model has been a key pillar in helping us grow our footprint in large government and enterprise accounts. Acquia’s DXP provides many value levers for our customers beyond the traditional WCM build” adds Andrew McClenaghan, CEO and Founder at Digital Echidna.

Riding High with Industry Accolades

Savvy Canadian CMOs, CDOs and CIOs have also taken notice of industry accolades that signal that Acquia’s DXP roadmap is well aligned with the direction that the market is taking.

Acquia was placed by Gartner, Inc. in the Leaders quadrant of the 2019 Magic Quadrant for Web Content Management. The company was also named a Leader in the Forrester Research, Inc. report: “The Forrester Wave™: Web Content Management Systems, Q4 2018.” According to Forrester, Acquia received the highest score in the strategy category among all vendors.

Acquia Canada has found that top Analysts have been articulating Acquia’s unique operating model and relative strengths in more palatable terms in recent years. This, coupled with the growing number of organizations running on Acquia, has contributed to creating more interest from enterprise and government customers, from coast-to-coast across Canada.

Anticipated Growth in 2020 and Beyond

“As 2020 rolls around we see many bright stars in Acquia’s future: heightened market awareness, the advent of Drupal 9, expanded DXP capabilities to meet deeper customer requirements and committed agency partners will all fuel Acquia’s continued growth for many years to come,” explains Chris Smith, CEO and Founder of OPIN, one of Canada’s fastest growing companies, according to Growth 500.

Acquia will continue to expand its sales and marketing functions in Canada into 2020 to help spread the good word about its capabilities to prospects and partners alike. Acquia looks forward to making multiple high profile customer announcements throughout 2020 as new Canadian brands and government agencies come online.

For more on how open source is transforming the digital landscape of Canada, Acquia will be hosting an executive breakfast in Ottawa on November 21.  Dries Buytaert, Drupal founder and Acquia CTO, will share his perspective on how Open Source is fueling innovation in government, boosting local economies and promoting internal and external collaboration.
