The Client

With a network of partners throughout the United States, the Epilepsy Foundation is leading the fight to overcome the challenges of living with epilepsy. The Foundation connects people to treatment, support, and resources; leads advocacy efforts; funds innovative research and the training of specialists; and educates the public about epilepsy and seizure first aid. For more than five decades, the Epilepsy Foundation has shone a light on epilepsy to promote awareness and understanding, and to advocate for laws that matter to people with epilepsy, while also funding epilepsy research and supporting epilepsy investigators and specialists in their early careers. 

The Situation

The Epilepsy Foundation needed to upgrade its site from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9, improving its overall website performance and providing an intuitive, engaging user experience. 

The Challenge

Previously, content authoring and workflow management were complex, making content cleanup difficult. Additionally, a difficult navigation structure, lack of social media integrations, lack of performance optimizations, and poor digital asset management led to prolonged times to market. 

The Solution 

The Foundation partnered with digital transformation firm Ameex, which prepared a detailed discovery questionnaire to understand the Foundation’s goals and challenges. Ameex conducted discovery sessions with customers to develop a detailed understanding of their pain points. The team executed the project in agile methodology, delivering in increments to receive feedback at each sprint and ensure deadlines are met. 

The Results

With Drupal as The Foundation's CMS, Acquia Site Studio enabled low-code development and page building, allowing the Epilepsy Foundation to quickly get to market. With Acquia Personalization, the Foundation created and delivered personalized journeys to its nuanced audiences via well-defined mindsets and modes. The migration of the complex site from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9 was well-managed and on time. And as a result, site performance was increased by 50%, and the deployment lifecycle was reduced.
