Acquia, the digital business company, today announced it received the Company of the Year award from the Belgian-American Chamber of Commerce (BelCham), a nonprofit that supports and facilitates business and entrepreneurship between Belgium and the United States. Each year BelCham presents this award to recognize the rapid growth and success of a company with Belgian ties. Past winners include Arseus, Brussels Airlines, and Le Pain Quotidien. Acquia was named Most Promising Company by BelCham in 2012.
Acquia’s co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Dries Buytaert, is a native of Belgium. He created the Drupal web content management system as a computer science student at the University of Antwerp. Drupal is open source software that powers millions of websites today, and it is supported by a community of more than 35,000 developers. In 2007, Buytaert founded Acquia to help organizations succeed with Drupal. More than 4,000 organizations, including Global 2000 enterprises, government agencies and NGOs, rely on Acquia’s open cloud platform to deliver digital experiences that unify content, community and commerce.
