Editor's note: This is the third installment of a 2018 update to our "The Ultimate Guide to Drupal 8" blog series, fresh off the presses for Drupal 8.6.
Drupal 8 offers much richer media management capabilities than previous versions of Drupal.
Additional Media Type Support
Although Drupal has long supported images and generic files, Drupal 8 expands on this with a generic "media" field, with support for local audio, video, images, and generic files, as well.

Embedding Remote Content
Drupal 8 also ships with oEmbed support, which allows the embedding of external media, such as YouTube and Vimeo videos.

Media Library (Experimental)
The media library module also lets you select from existing media to place into your post, as well as upload new items directly to the library.

That's a Wrap
Join us for our next installment, when we'll be talking all about Drupal 8's new workflow capabilities.
