Going Global with Acquia at DrupalCon 2020

Over the years, DrupalCons have brought people together from around the world and created lifelong friendships, career opportunities and even hosted a wedding! With the current COVID-19 pandemic, many people were unsure what this would mean for DrupalCon 2020 and how we could still find these same personal connections without gathering in person. Luckily, the Drupal community came together and once again proved that we are stronger together, raising more than $500,000 to support the Drupal Association and the first all-virtual DrupalCon Global conference!

Acquia is proud to be one of the organizations sponsoring DrupalCon as we believe that digital connections are more important than ever before. We’re excited to attend DrupalCon Global from July 14-17 and host two featured sessions along with many other informative talk tracks and interactive trivia with our fellow Drupalists. The virtual format of this year’s DrupalCon means that attendees have the chance to choose their own adventure as they navigate through hundreds of live events. Read on for a preview of what Acquia will be up to and why you should join us!

Drupal's 66% problem: Bridging the Migration Gap from Drupal 7 to Drupal 9

When: July 14, 2020, 15:15 - 16:00 UTC

Speaker: Angela Byron

Track: DevOps & Infrastructure

Drupal 9 has arrived, yet many users still feel worried about how to migrate their existing sites and content to D9. In fact, our research shows that a whopping 66% of all Drupal sites are still running on Drupal 7. Drupal expert and Acquia Senior Director of Community and Product Development Angela Byron (webchick) is here to break down the barriers to migration and show you how to migrate faster and at a lower cost.

Attendees will get access to Drupal user research to understand why migrations have been difficult in the past and come away with strategies and resources they need to accelerate their own migration to Drupal 9 right now.

How “Open" Applies to Marketing

When: July 15, 2020, 15:15 - 16:00 UTC

As the Drupal community has evolved over the years to welcome marketers, content editors and designers, the concept of “open” has expanded to mean so much more than just open source code. Acquia’s Lead Product Evangelist Eric Fullerton demonstrates how to achieve effective marketing through an open approach to integrations, APIs and machine learning.

Be Human, Think Digital, Give Back More

The theme of this year’s DrupalCon is “Be Human, Think Digital.” As we embrace the global reach that a virtual DrupalCon offers to educate and connect with a wider audience, Acquia also believes we need to do more to support our global community. Drupal has always advocated for an inclusive and diverse space that welcomes new ideas and works to build a better, more accessible web for all.

If we want to make a universal web a reality, we all must do more to provide the resources and opportunities for people from less privileged communities to get involved in tech. Acquia is proud to be raising funds for Black Girls Code at this year’s DrupalCon. Black Girls Code is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging the “digital divide” through educational programs, workshops and community outreach to introduce girls of color to programming, computer science and engineering skills.

We believe that the mission of Black Girls Code to inspire more young students to “Imagine. Build. Create” perfectly encapsulates the values of the Drupal community and the open source space. We’re excited to see how the Drupal community will bring that same sense of togetherness to this virtual conference.

Join us for DrupalCon Global. We can’t wait to see you there!
