The Client

Part of the Otsuka group of companies since 1989, Otsuka America Pharmaceutical Inc. (OAPI) oversees commercial product in the US, focusing on a diverse portfolio of products in neuroscience, oncology and cardio-renal. OAPI seeks to deliver first-class, efficient and effective medicines that offer the best value to customers.

The Situation

With multiple brands within its portfolio, OAPI wanted to create a centralized online platform for both consumer/caregivers and healthcare providers. They developed a single online portal that provided consolidated information and saw this as the first step in laying the groundwork for a site that would allow for easy updates and the addition of future brands. OAPI also wanted to make it easier for consumers to find specialty pharmacies and local care centers.

The Challenge

In addition to developing pharma-brand sites, OAPI also wanted to launch a tool on its site that would allow patients and caregivers to learn if they met the qualifications for no-cost medication. This eligibility tool, along with the short turnaround time for the multisite environment project, created a challenging situation for the project team, which included software engineering firm EPAM.

The Solution

OAPI worked with EPAM to deploy Acquia Site Factory, supporting the company’s many brands in a multisite environment for Drupal. The team also created the eligibility tool, supporting the company’s desire to provide a simple way for consumers to inquire about financial assistance. The eligibility tool packaged form submissions into a PDF file and, depending on the information submitted, provided the user with directions to download an enrollment application.

The Results

EPAM rapidly deployed and tested custom modules and theme contributions in Acquia Cloud Platform, leading to an improved workflow and easier content updates for the brand sites. Permission-controlled moderation helped refine the site’s content governance, and all sites on the platform were optimized for mobile, desktop and tablet experiences.
