Last week, Acquia’s India office was officially recognized as a Great Place to Work certified organization. As with any GPTW certification, we went through an exhaustive process of collecting employee feedback via Great Place to Work's leading data-driven methodology. The results showed that Acquians in India feel overwhelmingly positive toward Acquia’s workplace culture. This is very fulfilling for us, particularly when the world is still struggling to deal with the challenges of the pandemic, and we are investing in keeping people engaged while working remotely. This recognition is very much a vital testimony of our “People First” culture.

These are phrases you’ll hear Acquians say every day. Here are a few examples of how we take these principles and put them into action.
At Acquia, we have always promoted transparent and effective communication, but COVID made us step up the communication. Globally, our executive leadership provides an open forum for Acquians to stay informed about the company initiatives, through global All-Hands meetings and virtual office hours, where everyone is invited to share accomplishments, ask about company progress and voice any concerns. In India, we resorted to head, heart and hands leadership and added more channels to over-communicate. We created a range of programs driving engagement, health and productivity.
Dedicated Career Development
Acquia helps employees drive their own career growth and expand their abilities through many learning and mentorship programs. Our ongoing monthly Cognition Kitchen series is hosted by members from different departments and teams who give an inside look at their roles and encourage others to explore their options for internal mobility.
In India, we strive towards holistic development of our people and look to learn from other experts in our industry through monthly programs like the Philosophy Breakout, where we invite tech visionaries like Arun Nathani, CEO and Founder of Cybage, and Dr. Subi Krishnan, Vice President and General Manager of Apptio. Hearing the first-hand accounts of their own journeys inspires the team to keep moving forward.
Investing in Health and Wellness
A huge part of our continued success has been instilling a strong work-life balance and giving employees additional resources to deal with the anxiety and stress that has been a part of our lives since the lockdown began in India in March 2020. We hosted a stress management session open to employees and their families with tips for working parents and anyone who may be struggling with additional responsibilities due to remote work.
The India team also organized a session hosted by meditation experts at Art of Living, where employees went through breathing exercises and guided meditation practices over Zoom. This was in addition to our global partnership with the Headspace app, where each Acquia employee was granted a premium subscription to access relaxation tips and meditation exercises.
Giving Back to the Community
As an organization with roots in open source communities, we understand that people achieve more by doing good together. Acquians give back to their communities every day, which is core to our DNA of Give Back More.
In India, we volunteer every year by donating clothes to Goonj, a non-profit that provides disaster relief and humanitarian aid. We also recently partnered with the nonprofit Seva Sahayog to donate school supplies to over 1,000 children affected by the flooding of the Kolhapur district near Pune. To celebrate Children’s Day in India our team opened up our office to 20 kids from the Somnath Vidyalaya School to share snacks and create over 100 handcrafted kaleidoscopes!
