The Client
The Universidad de La Sabana Campus Virtual is a Colombian higher education institution that delivers accredited virtual academic programs that meet the Ministry of Education's regulatory requirements for online learning.
The Situation
The Universidad de La SaBana Campus Virtual needed a digital platform that met the Ministry of Education’s regulatory requirements for virtual programs, ensuring that online students received an experience equivalent to in-person learning.
The institution wanted to consolidate multiple academic services into a single digital environment by integrating institutional APIs and ensuring real-time availability, security, and data consistency within the Acquia ecosystem.
The Challenge
The organization faced numerous challenges. It needed to:
- Orchestrate multiple academic APIs in real time, while overcoming security and data consistency challenges.
- Deliver a unified user experience.
- Integrate control mechanisms and validate data to ensure continuous availability without compromising platform stability.
The Solution
The university tapped Acquia partner Esinergia, who spearheaded the project. The teams kicked off by first gathering regulatory and functional requirements, then designing a modular architecture integrated with multiple academic APIs. Next, they implemented secure real-time data visualization and conducted stability testing and security validation. Finally, Esinergia configured the organization’s editorial governance for academic management.
Throughout the project, Acquia Cloud provided a secure, scalable infrastructure that allowed the teams to integrate critical academic services without compromising stability. It enabled the management of complex integrations within a controlled, high-availability environment. The project integrated multiple academic systems in real time into a single digital experience, demonstrating Drupal and Acquia’s capability to support complex educational ecosystems.
The Results
The project helped the university meet its goals, bringing the virtual campus into full compliance with regulatory requirements. By centralizing academic services, the university reduced operational friction in student processes and enabled the scalability it needed to support virtual enrollment growth.
