The Client

Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ) is Ecuador's most active academic community, with 26 years of revolutionizing education in Ecuador. A private, non-profit Ecuadorian liberal arts educational institution, the organization is mainly dedicated to training, educating, researching, and serving the community within the philosophy of the liberal arts, integrating all sectors of society.

More than 5,500 students are today the vital axis of the Universidad San Francisco de Quito, with people from all regions and nationalities of the country, along with more than 1,000 international exchange students. The USFQ annually offers more than 4,000 academic courses and more than 50 careers in the liberal arts system.

The Situation

USFQ’s previous web host had performance problems, causing the organization to seek out a new hosting provider.

The Challenge

The organization was using Drupal 9.1, and had a lot of deprecated code. To run processes, it needed to update to the latest stable version of 9.x.

The Solution

Working with partner Esinergia, the teams analyzed and defined the project scope, setting up Acquia Cloud Platform and performing the migration. Then, USFQ performed a comprehensive QA analysis of the project before release.

The Results

With Acquia Cloud Platform, USFQ was able to upgrade and migrate its sites in record time — just 2-3 weeks. The platform provided the organization with three separate environments and an updated CMS. As a result, USFQ experiences higher speeds and performance, greater security, and a more transparent process for end users. USFQ stakeholders appreciated the migration, and could tell the Acquia difference from the moment the sites were migrated.
