Save the Children: One Platform, More Donations
Save the Children works through 29 member countries, and for a long time each of them worked in isolation. Every member had its own website on its own system, some on Drupal, some on other platforms. The larger members could afford to keep building whatever they needed. The smaller ones could not, and they had no way to reuse what the larger ones had already paid to build.
In this video, Reena Tripathi, VP Client Partner at Material+, explains what the team built instead. A global content platform on Drupal, hosted on Acquia Cloud Platform, where a single instance can serve several of the smaller member countries at once, and where security, compliance, and GDPR obligations sit with the platform rather than with each country's team.
Local autonomy was never up for negotiation. France is still France, Germany is still Germany, and localization holds. What changed is that a visitor now gets the same experience on any member country's site, and a smaller member inherits what a larger one has already proved works. More than 10 member countries have joined so far.
The effect shows up where it counts for a charity. Reena reports a 100% increase in user engagement, with people finding the content more relevant and staying longer, and a 400% increase in the conversion rate, which for Save the Children means donations.
