With the abundance of cute puppies and heartwarming videos on the Internet, it’s easy to forget about the great deal of meaningful thinking that occurs online. Finding all of the relevant content you should be reading can at times be a seemingly impossible task. If a single site existed that could host this relevant thought knowledge, well that might be the beginning of a great online conversation.
This is, in essence, the primary thinking behind the creation of BloombergCurrent.com.
As the product/community manager of BloombergCurrent I have a front row seat to watch the site (though still in beta) begin to grow and take shape into a meaningful platform allowing people to communicate. Our thought behind the creation of Current was to create a new type of social discussion platform that would leverage Bloomberg’s credibility and reach to give thought leaders access to leading business thinking from around the globe and a space for them to talk about it.
“So much content is generated on the various external social networks that it’s difficult to sift through and identify the people with something truly valuable to say,” says Rob Harles, global head of Social Media.
The platform has it’s sights set on cultivating a trusted community of business professionals and thought leaders divided into focused sectors. These sectors, such as health care, law, finance, technology and government, are then divided into streams. Streams are specific topics that a user creates to begin a discussion related to a particular topic. Each of these streams provides a framework to organize content and users into relevant “groups”.
BloombergCurrent has invited Acquia to contribute its thoughts on technology and digital disruption in order to help drive the discussion on how the digital sphere is radically changing business. Duo Consulting, a Chicago-based web development agency, built the platform to promote communication and collaboration through social networking within the enterprise.
Current is an invitation-only platform in order to ensure the highest quality of conversation. Once a user is permitted into the community, they have the option to post content publicly or privately and share content within the groups that they define. The community is designed to put users in control of the dissemination of content, fueling the conversation well after a story breaks.
Since launching, Current has earned a reputation of being a trusted user community comprised of business professionals who are passionate about like-minded topics. The platform continues its endeavors to create a space where thoughtful perspectives and insights can be uncovered from user feedback and conversation.
Since launching late this summer, we have attracted nearly 2,000 users and we’re excited to see what the future holds for BloombergCurrent and the future of meaningful digital experiences.
