Katelyn Fogarty's picture

Hello DrupalCon! Have you arrived yet? DrupalCon Portland starts officially tomorrow but come and get your badges and awesome t-shirts. I was going through the session list to pick out what sessions would be most beneficial for me and I wanted to share what I thought were the sessions every digital marketer or Webmaster should attend.Tuesday: 9:00 am – 10:00 am OR 204 - BlackmeshThe Future of Views This session is directed towards site builders and people who have used views before. Views are very powerful in Drupal and as a marketer have allowed me to pull dynamic content fast and keep my website up to date. Drupal 8 will have views in core so I hope to learn what changes will be made from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8 in views and how to best prepare for this change. Hope to see you there.

10:15 am – 11:15 am Hall AThe wonders of Drupal This is a beginner session about Drupal, Community and DrupalCon. This session is always given before the “Driesnote” and is fun and educational. You will get some good tips about how to get the most out of your time at DrupalCon. Enjoy

10:15 am – 11:15 am OR 203 - PalantirAsset Management in Drupal 8 This session is focused for front-end developers but as a Webmaster you should know how these things work. Thoughts on the DrupalCon Portland Keynote

Tom Wentworth's picture
Today was the official start of my first DrupalCon. As a newbie, it was a fun experience to see 3,300 Drupalists all in one room, anxious to hear from Dries, the original developer of Drupal. Here are some of my thoughts from today’s keynote: Do Well. Do Good. Change the World. Dries kicked off the keynote with a video from the head of Drupal for whitehouse.gov. After the video,... More

Automate review for security risks with source code analysis

Ben Jeavons's picture
Security issues are created in custom code when developers cut corners during development or don't make proper use of the APIs, among other reasons. There are several ways to discover such issues, including peer-review, code scanners, vulnerability scanning, and even by being exploited -- tho certainly undesirable! While each has its place and individual merits, let’s talk about security-focused... More

Drupal UX and design ninja Matt Edmunds

Jeffrey A. "jam" McGuire - Community Affairs Manager's picture
Matt Edmunds, UX Interaction Designer at Acquia, talks about his 9+ years of working with Drupal ... since version 4.3! This gave us the chance to reminisce about the days when we felt we could keep an eye on roughly the whole project on any given day or week. This was probably not truly the case back then and it certainly isn't now. His fine art background led him to theming in Drupal. As his art training led him into design, it also created a natural path to User Experience work, aka "UX". Today, he spends a lot of his time simplifying, unifying... More

Drupal Development: A Solved Game

Michael Cooper's picture
Part one of the All the things you need to know to be a great Drupal developer blog series Way back in the olden days (around the year 2000) how we developed for the web was a solved game. An example of a solved game is Checkers (English draughts, if you will). Given that both players play perfectly, the outcome of the game can be predicted at any point. Web development was the same: Use the lightest text editor you can find and find a good FTP program like Filezilla and that was that. The code you had to write wasn’t solved by any means, but the surrounding infrastructure... More
