Wow, what a year!
As I sit here in late December and reflect back on 2010, I am astonished at all that we as a company and a community have achieved. Back in January we set a revenue goal, which at the time I thought this was a bit over ambitious for our growing 30-person company. Well, let me tell you this, not only did we meet our revenue goals, we exceeded our stretch goals, representing 4X growth in one year – the team at Acquia rocks! So as a special “thanks” to all the people here at Acquia that make things happen every day, we are treating all of our employees and their Partners to a Caribbean vacation to thank them for all their hard work (note: I also promised to wear a grass skirt and coconut bra and yes I lived up to my promise - see photo). As you can imagine, meeting and exceeding goals takes a small army of great people to keep the momentum rolling. Our plan - we hired more great people, then we hired even more great people and we continue to hire great people every day; the number of employees at Acquia has more than doubled in 2010 and will double again in 2011. If you would like to be a part of Acquia, check out our Career page!
Not only are great things happening inside the four walls of Acquia, the Drupal community continues to be a vital part of our company’s success. Did you know every time there is a major Drupal release the community has doubled? This is an amazing feat, considering Drupal is free open-source software that people work on for the good of the community. This opens up tremendous opportunities for Drupal moving forward, starting with the release of Drupal 7, on January 5, 2011. The success of Drupal is astounding, we have seen wide spread Drupal adoption across enterprises; if you told me last year that the NYSE would consolidate all of their sites on Drupal I would of laughed; if you told me the SEC would be running on Drupal I may have fallen off my seat…well, it looks like the joke’s on me.
If large-scale enterprises such as the NYSE and SEC are running on Drupal imagine what other sites Drupal can power … the opportunities are endless. We have high expectations for Drupal 7 as it promises to be the best yet. User experience has been dramatically simplified, new modules have been built in to assist users in building a killer web experience and we are rolling Drupal 7 out to the masses with Drupal Gardens Open SaaS offering.
2010 has been a banner year for Acquia and the Drupal community; I am looking forward to 2011 with great anticipation.
