Katelyn Fogarty's picture

Hello DrupalCon! Have you arrived yet? DrupalCon Portland starts officially tomorrow but come and get your badges and awesome t-shirts. I was going through the session list to pick out what sessions would be most beneficial for me and I wanted to share what I thought were the sessions every digital marketer or Webmaster should attend.Tuesday: 9:00 am – 10:00 am OR 204 - BlackmeshThe Future of Views This session is directed towards site builders and people who have used views before. Views are very powerful in Drupal and as a marketer have allowed me to pull dynamic content fast and keep my website up to date. Drupal 8 will have views in core so I hope to learn what changes will be made from Drupal 7 to Drupal 8 in views and how to best prepare for this change. Hope to see you there.

10:15 am – 11:15 am Hall AThe wonders of Drupal This is a beginner session about Drupal, Community and DrupalCon. This session is always given before the “Driesnote” and is fun and educational. You will get some good tips about how to get the most out of your time at DrupalCon. Enjoy

10:15 am – 11:15 am OR 203 - PalantirAsset Management in Drupal 8 This session is focused for front-end developers but as a Webmaster you should know how these things work. This session is going to cover how assets are declared and managed in Drupal 8 and discuss the new possibilities. I think this is worth a listen.

Thoughts on the DrupalCon Portland Keynote

Tom Wentworth's picture
Today was the official start of my first DrupalCon. As a newbie, it was a fun experience to see 3,300 Drupalists all in one room, anxious to hear from Dries, the original developer of Drupal. Here are some of my thoughts from today’s keynote: Do Well. Do Good. Change the World. Dries kicked off the keynote with a video from the head of Drupal for whitehouse.gov. After the video,... More

Automate review for security risks with source code analysis

Ben Jeavons's picture
Security issues are created in custom code when developers cut corners during development or don't make proper use of the APIs, among other reasons. There are several ways to discover such issues, including peer-review, code scanners, vulnerability scanning, and even by being exploited -- tho certainly undesirable! While each has its place and individual merits, let’s talk about security-focused... More

Dream It. Drupal It. (Drink It!) DrupalCon.

Tahlor Marchi's picture
Can you believe that DrupalCon is less than a month away? I certainly can't! This year, DrupalCon is taking over Portland, Oregon, the home of the Drupal Association, our west-coast office, as well as a burgeoning open source community.  For those of you unfamiliar with DrupalCon, it is an international event that brings together the people... The State of COD

Jakob Perry's picture
Many people have asked how COD, otherwise known as the Conference Organizing Distribution, is going. Currently its a community supported project, with lots of great new features going into the 7.x branch! This weekend, Acquia was at Linuxfest Northwest (LFNW, http://www.linuxfestnorthwest.org), a regional conference of about 1500 open source enthusiasts, and COD was running behind the scenes to help make the fest run as smoothly as possible. The current status of Alpha 2: LFNW is running of the alpha2 version of COD 7, the most... More

Jeffrey A. "jam" McGuire - Community Affairs Manager's picture
Shannon Vettes is the Partner Manager at Commerce Guys in Paris; the company leading the way in making Drupal the platform of choice for eCommerce. Among other things, she has the rewarding job of coordinating adding modules and services to the Commerce Marketplace and getting integrators involved in the platform, too. Talks on project management I met her recently at Drupal Camp Scotland in Glasgow, where she was the keynote speaker... More

How to Make Your Drupal Website Multilingual

Katelyn Fogarty's picture
As the site manager for acquia.com, I had a lot to think about when we originally decided to translate the site into other languages. Why are we translating? What will we be translating? How will we handle pages that aren’t translated? What modules do we need to add? What translation services will we use? How will we maintain all languages? What are the best ways to achieve my goals in Drupal 7? My past experience with translation in Drupal was with a Drupal 6 website and we did a multisite install, so we shared modules and themes but had separate websites and databases. Why are you... More

Agile Software Development – Cracking the Code

Sahana Anantha Murthy's picture
Part of the "All the things you need to know to be a great Drupal developer" blog series Cassette, VCR, disposable cameras, pager, dial-in Internet, CD’s, CD-player, maps, encyclopedia, waterfall model for software development etc. Well this list represents things that make us nostalgic and remind us of the ugly truth of how things quickly become obsolete in the agile world of technology. Agile methodology is one of those things that grew out of obsolescence. It was an evolution for software teams to finally move from the conventional waterfall model to something that was... More
