HealthCity, hosted and funded by the Boston Medical Center Health System (BMCHS) is a nonprofit online platform dedicated to exploring the most pressing issues in healthcare today. HealthCity is a place where providers, researchers, business leaders, policymakers, funders and citizens can come together to exchange ideas and insights and scale their efforts.
This is a defining time for healthcare. As costs continue to rise and understanding of the root causes of poor health deepens, it’s clear that advancing health today means doing things differently from yesterday. BMCHS established HealthCity as a new platform to host content, encourage important conversations and make new connections to tackle important healthcare issues. Sponsoring the initiative helps to enhance the BMCHS brand and establish BMCHS as a source for thought leadership and innovation in the healthcare space.
The team is relatively small with only 3 with development and coding skills. The timeline for the project was only 3 months requiring that iterations and edits be made quickly. It was new to create a site from the ground up with complex content relationships that had to be accessible to a wide team of contributors and content editors. It was a new experience to work in multiple environments mirroring content, settings and configurations while simultaneously handling new feature requests and design edits. The project also required developing a new SEO strategy to target and rank for new terms and a new audience not previously optimized for.
The team deployed a highly collaborative approach working closely with the content team who manage the site every day. Leveraging the power of Drupal empowered the content team to create engaging multi-media stories with the ability to embed data visualizations, videos, social media quotes and other rich media. At launch the site was populated with 30+ stories including videos and images. The site was rolled out with an SEO strategy that guided development from a technical standpoint and complemented the content team’s work. Acquia and Acquia Cloud Edge were selected for security and performance objectives. Acquia Dev Desktop helped to manage multiple developers and coders working simultaneously on a project. Acquia Cloud helped the team to develop safely in one environment before migration and launch.
