At the time of the original launch Lifetime TV was the largest website using the Drupal framework. With architecture design to support 100 million page views per month, this website is a model for advanced performance and scalability. Incorporating advance performance tools such as Memchache and advanced data layer architecture Lifetime pushes the Drupal envelope.
The website incorporates a custom Drupal module called Asset Manager that allowed for thousands of images, logos and illustrations to be categorized and cross referenced for easy access by Lifetime’s 20 person editorial staff. Other unique features include movie database, television schedule, videos, photos, editor-produced articles, user-produced stories, games, tag clouds, and topic-based search.
One of the most unique aspects to the Lifetime website in Achieve Internet’s opinion is the advanced theming. A majority of the website (80%+) required custom Drupal theming. Everything from the image based tag cloud to the multi-level blog pages were far outside of the Drupal structure. The direction was clear from day one, the website was design driven and Achieve Internet needed to make the function fit the design. Not only was this a technical challenge it was a performance obstacle. Through the use of Memcache and several hours of database, server and query adjustments, the site reached the optimal performance requirements for the industry.
