Acceleration and partner eLearning consultancy Delphian eLearning developed this online resource for the Australian Red Cross Blood Services (ARCBS) as part of the Government designated Year of the Blood Donor 2009.
www.bloodbuddies.com.au is an interactive resource free for all Australian secondary schools, with multimedia simulations and digital stories of real blood recipients and donors. It has been designed to complement current national and state curriculum, to raise awareness about the importance of blood and the need for blood donation in our society.
The online resource is structured into four parts, each targeting a different subject need and / or audience year level. The four areas are:
Who needs blood? Interactive video interviews with three young people needing blood products
The science of blood Discovering blood types, carry out tests and understanding compatible blood types
A virtual blood donor tour Simulated tour of a Blood Donor Centre to learn about the donation process through to final distribution
Timeline and blood myths The events (and factual myths) leading to current practices of blood transfusions and donating blood.
Supporting online learning is a direct mail campaign to teachers containing a visually engaging printed timeline that promotes the resource by being displayed on classroom walls.
