Acquia Announces 'Enterprise Drupal Gardens'

Warner Music Group uses ‘OpenSaas’ platform to apply new level of flexibility and innovation to artists’ websites

DRUPALCON, DENVER, CO – March 19, 2012 – Acquia, the enterprise guide to Drupal, today unveiled ‘Enterprise Drupal Gardens’, a new platform for organizations, including Warner Music Group, to centrally create and manage large numbers of content-rich, social websites. The new service enables each online destination to be swiftly deployed with the most advanced features and designs to create extraordinary web experiences.

Acquia’s Enterprise Drupal Gardens offers website hosting, development, security, and scale, allowing customers to access and build their websites through a common web browser. It presents the same advantages as proprietary ‘software-as-a-service’ (SaaS) models, but is built on Drupal, the open source content management system, so customers are no longer trapped into a SaaS system. Instead, they benefit from the pace of Drupal’s energetic open source ecosystem, which is constantly innovating and evolving new features.
The resulting ‘OpenSaas’ platform means there’s no software to install, no servers to manage, and site owners have the freedom to export their open source Drupal sites at any time.
Warner Music Group (WMG) is among the first companies to use the enterprise version of Drupal Gardens, working with Acquia for six months to tailor the platform to WMG's specific requirements. A wide range of artists’ websites are already on the platform, including Cody Simpson, T.I., B.o.B, Portugal. The Man, Stevie Nicks, Iron & Wine, Surfer Blood, JaneDear girls and Gloriana. Websites for Jason Derulo, Waka Flocka Flame, Shinedown, Paramore, Wiz Khalifa and Trey Songz are among those due to be on the platform in the coming weeks.
"We're committed to providing our artists with the best possible service and helping them achieve their potential, both creatively and commercially. A key part of that mission is producing content-rich, social web destinations, which foster the connection between artists and fans." said Paul Sinclair, SVP, Digital Media, Atlantic Records. “By partnering with Acquia and the Drupal community, we can drive technical innovation, more quickly, efficiently and expertly than any single organization could. At the same time, we have more freedom to focus our resources behind what we do best: developing long-term artist careers.”
“It used to be that you had to choose between open source and SaaS,” said Ryan Garner, VP of Direct-to-Consumer services at Warner Music. “If you wanted open source, you had to install, configure, customize, host, scale, secure, enhance, and upgrade everything yourself or pay large sums of money to someone else to do it for you. If you wanted SaaS, you had to risk lock-in or lost investments and costly migrations should you ever want or need to switch partners. With OpenSaaS and Enterprise Drupal Gardens, we have proven these choices false, and it’s been liberating.”
“OpenSaaS Enterprise Drupal Gardens is a game changer. Global organizations are under pressure to find a flexible and low cost means to build incredible web experiences,” said Tom Erickson, chief executive officer at Acquia. “Warner Music Group is a great example of how we are helping enterprises dramatically reduce operational hurdles and costs, while offering them unparalleled freedom to create websites without boundaries, based on open source Drupal.”
To date, more than 100,000 websites have been built on Acquia’s original Drupal Gardens platform. Enterprise Drupal Gardens offers the following benefits for building content-rich, social websites including:

  • Powerful Drupal CMS capabilities – Create dynamic content mashups, photo and video galleries, custom content, forms and surveys, and social web experiences.
