Innovative Solution Delivers Affordable, Assistive Technologies
What would happen if you could never tell a loved one how much you cared about them or even communicate simple commands that are taken for granted each day? There are millions of Americans currently living with neurological conditions that leave them unable to communicate effectively or use a computer. With the only market-available solution costing upwards of $15,000 to help bridge that gap, many are seeking a better way to bring an affordable, personalized assistive technologies to those that need it.
In Providence, Rhode Island, a team of developers, designers and engineers are working toward just that: finding simple solutions for complex communication needs. The SpeakYourMind Foundation, led by founder and executive director Dan Bacher, is creating a more cost effective and highly personalized alternative to the current market option.
What does it take? A pair of cheap, hipster glasses, an off-the-shelf webcam, and an application that can turn eye movements into speech.

Japan Gets First Bitcoin ATM
Suzuka, the home of the Japanese Grand Prix will play host to Japan's first bitcoin ATM, the first of three rolled out in the region. The Robocoin ATM to be set up, will allow bitcoin users to buy and sell the cryptocurrency, and will also issue Japanese yen.
"Vancouver has hosted the world's first bitcoin ATM since last year. Machines have also appeared in the U.S., the U.K., Singapore, New Zealand, Switzerland, and, from this week, China, in addition to other countries.
Users of the Robocoin ATM in Japan will be able to buy and sell bitcoin through the machine, which would also issue Japanese yen and transaction receipts."
