IT’s Role is Evolving in a Hybrid Cloud Environment

According to Cisco, nearly half of hardware decision-makers predict that they will have workloads in both traditional/on-premise cloud environments and hosted/service provider environments by 2016. Storing data in the cloud has many advantages: it’s cost-efficient, reliable, and this hybrid approach lets businesses take advantage of the scalability of third-party offerings, while also keeping certain sensitive, business-critical information contained in the privacy of their own cloud.

But, these have-your-cake-and-eat-it-too hybrid environments create many new challenges. Data management and migration become much more complex and security and downtime produces heightened concerns for today’s CIOs.

It is no longer enough to know piecemeal, process-focused information about data migration and access. The new CIO must have a more holistic understanding of the entire data universe, and how security, levels of design change, and location affect data stored in different clouds.

SnagaStool is the OpenTable for bar stools

A few weeks ago I met Jamie Manning and Adriano Varassin, co-founders of SnagaStool, at TechCrunch's Boston Pitch-Off. SnagaStool is the first and only mobile app that allows you to reserve your spot at the bar.

And this makes perfect sense.

How many times have you gone into a bar trying to watch a sports game or even catch up with some friends when all of the seats at the bar are taken? I’m sure it even reached the point where you said to yourself, “I’d pay to get a seat.” That was exactly the thought Manning and Varassin had when coming up with the idea that turned into SnagaStool.
