It’s not just that open source enables innovation, it’s that “innovation happens first with open source.” This was the observation of Red Hat President and CEO Jim Whitehurst at North Bridge Venture Partners’ recent “Startup Secrets” event in Boston.

Today's "social sign-ons" as offered by Facebook, Google, Twitter and others, offer users a fast, password-free login experience across sites, but have a significant problem. As Dan puts it, "The cost there is that I have to send all of my data, all of my logins through some central third party, usually an American advertising company. We think we should be able to find a way to give you the same login experience as Facebook or Google, but with the ability to still choose who you are."
Viral may be Disruptive, but is it Future-Proof?

IT Builds New Revenue Streams on Cloud
Richard Sanchez, president of Miami-based cloud-computing company 0NL9, Inc., is no longer surprised to see IT skills applied in new -- and potentially profitable -- ways.
One of his clients is a company that leases storage containers in over a hundred locations across Canada and Europe. Recently, an IT pro on staff, "who was previously doing things like fighting computer viruses," took the initiative to develop an online calculator that allows prospective customers to price their lease online, based on the size and availability of the container.
