Acquia Flow

Acquia Culture in Action, June 2020

The world has experienced tremendous disruption over the past few months. It has never been more important for us to come together and commit to building a safe, inclusive and supportive culture for our communities. Acquians around the world believe in our core DNA, a set of values that motivate us to do good and make a lasting, positive impact. We also recognize that we have work to do.

#StrongerTogether: Inclusion and Diversity

In recent weeks we’ve seen powerful movements, protests and conversations rise up in the fight against racism. We stand together in the move for a more inclusive and just society. Our leadership continues to educate ourselves on how we can best support our community and stand up for change. Many Acquians have made employee contributions to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund to assist those who need protection and advocacy of their rights. However, there is still more action to be done, and our community will continue to seek out resources so that we can drive progress.

This is also a time when we are recognizing the LGBTQ+ community and working to advocate for a more inclusive space for people of all identities. Throughout Pride month, Acquians took part in virtual events, recommended their favorite queer media resources and celebrated the community by sharing photos and stories.

At Acquia, we believe we are life-long learners and we strive to always keep educating ourselves and our community about how we can do more, both in our roles and in helping improve the society that we live in. In the past few weeks, Acquians have compiled and shared lists of diverse books and media on our employee blogging platform and individual communication channels to promote widespread representation of different identities. Acquians have actively embraced spaces like our diversity and pride channels because we understand how important it is to keep having these conversations and making sure every perspective can be heard.

#LevelUp Your Job Search with Acquia

We’ve all seen how COVID-19 has had a major impact on the business world in these past few months, and many people are now facing financial hardships, layoffs and economic uncertainty. At Acquia, we wanted to give back to anyone who may be struggling in these difficult times by sharing our best advice for a successful job search.

On June 15, Acquia team members were joined by our other leading organizations to host a webinar called “If Your Job is to Find a Job.” Speakers and panelists from Acquia, Cutover and Asari Partners offered tips on how to craft the perfect resume, LinkedIn networking etiquette, successful interview strategies and more. We know that there is endless talent out there and we want to do whatever we can to assist people in finding their dream career.

#Teamwork: Sharing Strategies for Self Care

Last month, we brought the Headspace meditation app to our Acquia employees as a way to help people reduce stress during these difficult times. To encourage our community to embrace wellness and mindfulness, we also hosted a session focused on meditation and relaxation strategies so that Acquians could take a breath between work.

Acquians continue to share their own strategies for self care and good health. In a feature in BuiltInBoston, our Vice President of HR & Total Rewards, Anne McDonough, spoke to how maintaining a schedule with regular physical and mental breaks (even little things like walking in the yard) helps her feel calm and avoid burnout.

It’s so important to give yourself permission to care for yourself. Building self-care into your workday is an active choice to prioritize your health and well-being as much as your work responsibilities,” wrote Miwako Chimura, Acquia Human Resources Coordinator in a recent LinkedIn blog post. It’s important that we give our people the time, space and resources they need to feel their best.

#CommittedtoAwesome: Virtual Ice Cream Social

Another self-care strategy we’re a fan of at Acquia is bonding over sweet treats! Even though we’re all still working remotely, the marketing team recently held a socially distanced ice cream social! The Acquia-branded pints were surprise deliveries from our CMO, Lynne Capozzi, as a way to say thanks to her hardworking team and kick the summer off with some fun. We love finding creative ways to show appreciation and join together no matter the circumstances.
