Dries Buytaert Recognized in Technology Review’s Prestigious TR35 Listing of the World’s Top Young Innovators for 2008
TR35 to be Honored at Technology Review’s EmTech08 Conference at MIT in September
Andover, MA – August 19, 2008 – Acquia today announced that Dries Buytaert has been recognized by Technology Review magazine as one of the world’s top innovators under the age of 35 for creating the open source Drupal social publishing system and co-founding the commercial open source software company, Acquia. Selected from more than 300 nominees by a panel of expert judges and the editorial staff of Technology Review, the TR35 is an elite group of accomplished young innovators who exemplify the spirit of innovation.
Buytaert created Drupal as a student to help him manage his responsibilities. Drupal grew quickly from a personal project into a wildly popular social publishing system that blends web content management and social media capabilities with a massive library of powerful extensions – all supported by a thriving open source community. The Drupal project has continued to double annually for several years resulting in over two million downloads since its inception. Additionally, Buytaert co-founded Acquia this past year with entrepreneur, Jay Batson. Acquia is a new software company that is working to accelerate and extend market adoption of Drupal by advancing the core technology and offering value-added software products and network services that dramatically speed deployment and reduce risk.
“The TR35 honors young innovators for accomplishments that are poised to have a dramatic impact on the world as we know it,” said Jason Pontin, editor in chief and publisher of Technology Review magazine. “We celebrate their success and look forward to their continued advancement of technology in their respective fields.”
“Since his early twenties, Dries’ forward thinking projects and innovations have captured the interest of thousands of people worldwide,” said Jay Batson, Acquia CEO and Co-Founder. “He’s already had a tremendous impact on the industry and his entrepreneurial spirit and technology know-how ensure that he’ll continue to be an influencer in the open source community and the social publishing space.”
Buytaert and the other TR35 winners for 2008 will be featured in the September issue of Technology Review magazine and honored at EmTech08 Conference to be held at MIT in Cambridge, Mass. September 23-25, 2008.
