DISA Selects Acquia's Drupal Commons for Forge.mil Community
Social Business Software Used to Create DoD Development Community
WOBURN, MA--(Marketwire - April 18, 2011) - Acquia, the enterprise guide to Drupal, today announced that the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has selected Drupal Commons social business software to create Forge.mil Community, a new social network site for Forge.mil users to connect, share and manage information. Forge.mil Community is using Drupal Commons to enable SoftwareForge and ProjectForge project teams as well as others within the Department of Defense (DoD) community to collaborate and solve similar challenges that transcend a single project or set of projects. The Forge.mil Community site is available to U.S. military, DoD government civilians and DoD contractors for Government authorized use.
Forge.mil's mission is to improve the ability of the DoD to rapidly deliver dependable, useful software, services, and systems in support of net-centric operations and warfare and to transform the way the DoD innovates Information Technology. The Forge.mil Community provides a consolidated enterprise platform for improved collaboration, shared knowledge, the ability to cast a wider net to find answers, and stay connected to team members, users and customers.
"Our objective was to create a robust community site that would be able to integrate into multiple projects quickly and easily. We selected Drupal Commons because of its flexibility, integration capabilities, and its ability for us to get up and running in a short time frame. Without Drupal Commons, this project could easily have taken an additional 8-10 weeks to complete," said Dan Gahafer, Forge.mil Program Manager and DISA CTO.
Drupal Commons combines popular social web features for users such as blogging, wikis, and friends with analytics, controls and management using the open source Drupal social publishing platform as the underlying foundation.
"DISA's Forge.mil Community is a great example of how Drupal Commons enables organizations to collaborate around ideas, projects, or a common purpose, quickly and cost-effectively," said Jay Batson, co-founder of Acquia. "They recognized the need to improve the communication between teams and individuals sharing a common purpose and working to solve similar challenges that transcend a single project or set of projects."
