We all know there is a lot of money in tech and talented workers in the industry can earn impressive salaries in any subsection of it. But if big money is your goal, which skills should you seek to develop to score the best-paying jobs in tech?
To answer that question we looked to a recently released survey report from tech job search platform Dice.com. According to the information provided from survey respondents – nearly 13,000 of them, all working in tech throughout the United States — we have a clearer understanding of which skills have the potential to bring in the best wages.
The below list is the top-20 of a roster of skills Dice found to be most lucrative, in order of the average salaries of those proficient in them.
When compared to the salary performance reports from last year’s survey, some of these skills enjoyed a bigger increase in value than others. The one that saw the biggest jump was associated with Compellent, a cloud storage tool. The average salary of those proficient in that skill rose 11.4% between 2015 and 2016.
Another fast climber was Drupal, a content management system whose experts average salary grew by about 9%. JCL — an IBM scripting language — also saw wage growth to the tune of 7%.
