Jakub Suchy's picture

Managed Cloud is a great tool for hassle-free management of your Drupal sites and works great out of the box. What I realized in the last weeks is that it has a lot of features that we don’t typically advertise to users but are hugely valuable for them. Development environments are one of those.

Achieving Continuous Integration with Drupal

English

Creating killer websites is hard, but deploying them shouldn’t be.

Developing and deploying web sites is best accomplished using a methodology called Continuous Integration (CI). By working in small batches, testing constantly, and automating all testing and deployment tasks, you can avoid big surprises and painful deployment experience. However, achieving a true Continous Integration development process requires building and maintaining a highly automated infrastructure. You can build such a system yourself, or with Acquia Cloud you can be up and running in a few minutes.

Acquia Managed Cloud: Highly Available Architecture for Highly Unpredictable Traffic

While most companies with business-critical sites can’t afford downtime, accurately predicting traffic every day is impossible. This leaves organizations hosting in the cloud with two options: Overpay for physical servers you might rarely need, or underpay and suffer the consequences of failure. Whether failure comes in the form of brand and reputation damage, or in more hard opportunity cost dollars, the fact remains: failure costs too much.

Anyone who thinks cloud isn't displacing jobs should talk with Dries Buytaert, co-founder and CTO of Acquia, a Drupal-based PaaS. During a panel on the future of cloud, he said one of the largest media and entertainment companies has moved a bunch of sites to the Acquia service and let go the "entire IT team" that was running those sites. Word to the wise: If your job title is "Web master" at Acme Corp., watch out.
