Giving thanks, giving mo.
With 5 days to go in Movember, I'm bothering you for nearly-the-last-time about donating to help the fight against testicular- and prostate cancer.
See this mo? Does it look good? Don’t answer ... As my wife says, "It's better than cancer." Donate to help my magnificent moustache and the collective glory of the upper lips of the Mo Drupal team raise money for men's health.
Movember fundraising is very close to home for me, very personal. I was thankful for the collection of great friends and family we had over for our “misfit Thanksgiving” again this year at my home in Germany. It made me think of many folks who couldn’t be there or who aren’t around anymore. My uncle Howard (my aunt's husband) is going through treatment for prostate cancer right now. My uncle Stuart (my mother's brother) died of cancer a few years ago. It was out to get him, but had to go through prostate, liver, and a couple others to finally finish him off.
I hate the thought of losing anyone else to cancer – my dad or son or another uncle – and I'm certain you feel the same. I'm growing this ugly thing on my lip to make a point and start conversations, but no one asks ... dunno if I'm too hipster or if it looks too "right" on me (what a thought!).
Doing our moustachioed part for men's health during “Movember” has become a tradition at Acquia in the last couple of years. We've got a fun Movember page and it's been pretty amusing to walk around the office recently and see the various stages of awkward, itchy, stringy, or bushy ‘staches on so many faces. Beyond the cheap laughs, though, I'm glad to play a small part in the fight against diseases that have taken so many of our friends and family.
