Digital Transformation is Bigger than Digital Marketing

For the past few years, Gartner has been predicting the budget shift from the CIO to the CMO, as digital marketing teams have been the early pioneers of digital transformation. But while digital marketers certainly were at the forefront of what Gartner calls the digitalization of business, now CEOs realize that the ability to compete and win... Meer

Patching with Drush Make

Introduction Patching software is a common practice in open source software that enables developers to fix bugs and implement features within their projects, independent of the upstream software’s development cycle. The offset of this approach is that it can become cumbersome to maintain and re-apply patches as the upstream software continues to fix bugs, implement features and fix security vulnerabilities. With Drupal, patches can be better managed with an automated tool called Drush Make. This tool allows you to define a list of patched upstream (contrib) software and can aid the automated... Meer

Traffic spikes and college's website crashes. Don't let it happen to you

Being in the cloud business we often hear the phrase, “don’t let your best day be your worst day.” It’s certainly a risk that any school that hosts it’s own websites faces. A couple of weeks ago an elite, very well known school in the Northeast had a “best day / worst day” situation of their own, proving that it can happen to anyone. At 5pm on “Decision Day”, the time and day when this school notified nearly 40,000 applicants as to whether or not they were accepted for admission, traffic to their internally managed servers surged. The school knew this event would lead to increased traffic (... Meer

Amitai Burstein: Zariz - Continuous Deployment for Content

I got the chance a while back to speak with Amitai Burstein, CTO of Gizra - a boutique development shop in Tel Aviv creating advanced web applications using Drupal, along with Node.js, Jekyll and other technologies. Why Digital Transformation is a Boardroom Conversation

Over the weekend, I read the 97-page leaked New York Times Innovation Report, a manifesto for helping the Times become a more competitive business in the disrupted publishing space. While the Times is still winning at quality journalism, it has failed to get content to its readers. Its content is often being re-packaged and consumed by other publishers like Huffington Post, or is being consumed in new ways like Flipboard. And digital publishing startups like Vox Media are more agile... Meer

There was some exciting news announced last week as the Australian government said it was strongly considering replatforming on Drupal, potentially replacing 1200 websites used across the board of the commonwealth. In a blog post, CTO John Sheridan said, “The... Meer

How to Use Small Data in Your CMS

Word on the street these days is that big data isn’t as big a deal as it used to be. This opinion reflects the hangover that happened after businesses rushed to adopt data-analytics systems, and found that their business problems weren’t majestically cured after all. Part of the problem is the misinterpretation of “big data” as a single product, when in fact it is an umbrella term that can cover any variety of tools. There’s data collection, data analysis, data visualization … the list... Meer
