3 Reasons to Take 10 Minutes for the Future of Open Source

Time is running out to weigh in on the 7th Annual Future of Open Source Survey. The survey is an annual report of the state of the open source industry, and is only open to participation from the open source community for two more days. If you haven’t taken time to participate, there are a few reasons why you should before the March 28 deadline.

Priorities and Trends are Ever Changing
The trends that are revealed by this survey anchor the focus of key open-source influencers and help to set benchmarks that track the community’s evolution.

Last year’s survey revealed that open source was fueling innovation in both mobile and cloud, and identified industries leading the adoption of open source, including automotive and financial services. This year’s survey will reveal if these trends remain true and what other trends have emerged. Survey organizations are aiming to have more than 1,000 participants in this year’s survey, and each participant helps improve the overall breadth and perspective the results offer.

Nothing Beats Hard Data
Anecdotally, there’s plenty of evidence of open source adoption, and there’s no doubt that you have a mountain of information available from your own contacts among open source developers and vendors. Yet the Future of Open Source Survey is a resource that provides a broad sense of trends and challenges from the wide cross-section of participants.

Wondering if it really matters? There are nearly 30 collaborating organizations including Acquia that are collaborating to engage the open-source community and promote participation. It’s our fifth year doing so. Like us, every one of these organizations looks to the results of the survey as a barometer of the market. Be sure you’re represented.

Your Insight Will Get Heard
If your company uses open-source software or plans to do so, this survey is about you. Don’t let others speak on your behalf; your participation helps everyone in the open source community get a broader, truer perspective on the evolution of open source.

So take a moment to join the conversation and participate in this year’s survey before it closes on Thursday. Results will be announced on Wednesday, April 17, during a live webcast.
