Tom Wentworth's picture

I've spent most of my career working for commercial web content management companies. But over the past few years, something became very clear to me - commercial CMS products are broken. Vendors are spending more time building features to compete with each other than they are trying to solve real-world customer problems.

BURLINGTON, USA: Acquia, the enterprise guide to Drupal, has announced that a commissioned study conducted by Forrester Consulting on behalf of Acquia, titled "Is It Time To Consider Open Source WCM For Digital Experience?" found that open source Web Content Management (WCM) solutions have the highest satisfaction rate for creating dynamic, multichannel digital experiences.

Of those who said they were 'very satisfied' with their existing WCM solution, open source had the highest satisfaction rate (37 percent) over "homegrown" (22 percent) and proprietary solutions (8 percent).

The Forrester study, commissioned by Acquia, surveyed 160 senior business, marketing and IT decision-makers from organizations with 1,000 to more than 20,000 employees. The survey revealed that 31 percent of organizations plan on switching WCM platforms this year and 58 percent indicate that their organization has considered or is considering open source WCM.

Nearly 60 percent of the 160 companies surveyed said they had at least considered open source for their WCM programs. The report also found that executives who make these kind of decisions are also the ones who are least likely to be very satisfied with their choice.

Meet Peter Wolanin: We are changing the world.

In 2004, Peter Wolanin, then a full-time scientist, discovered Drupal while volunteering on a political campaign and building its website. As he puts it, the road to becoming a full-time software engineer at Acquia started when he discovered that "pretty soon, I got more interested in fixing the bugs than building the site ... "The satisfaction of fixing things sort of drew me in."

Lisa Rex's picture

The Drupal Commons 3.x interactive demo was posted recently, and we’d love your feedback.

But in the meantime, I'll go into the reasons Drupal Commons software was redesigned, our approach and some of the tough challenges we faced. In a future post, I'll get into the details of the design process.

Mission statement: Drupal Commons empowers communities with easy-to-use collaboration tools so that they can answer questions, share solutions and self-organize.

What is DrupalCon?

Those of us getting really excited that it is almost time for DrupalCon again sometimes need to explain to our friends, colleagues, or family members what all the fuss is about.

Explaining DrupalCon

Have you ever had trouble putting it into words? "Yeah, Mom, we sit in rooms together and write code! ... Yes, I do that all year ... Yes, I talk to these people online all the time ... But DrupalCon is incredible because it's so ... y'know, great! I met Dries! I committed a patch with Webchick!"
