Working smarter: Drupal-enable your team with training

Heather James's picture

In the landscape of web development, working and learning are converging. I think about this quite a bit at Acquia as we keep tuning our courses and training program.

We often focus on the technical benefits of adopting Drupal. However, it occurred to me the other day, there are potential auxiliary benefits in terms of empowering staff by using Drupal. Drupal has the potential to increase job satisfaction and motivation by posing a fundamental shift in how individuals and organization work.

Starting in September, I’ll be teaching a 10 week long course at Queen's University Belfast in their Open Learning Program. Register now for this course £110.00.

Acquia has been working closely with colleges to deliver Free student Drupal training on campus. But we're working to expand Drupal's reach into higher education by developing this 10 week course.

Meet Acquia's training partners

I'm going to be blogging about our training partners and their trainers this summer, because they are awesome, and I'm very proud of what they're doing. All of our training partners are really busy. For example, Doug Vann is traveling around the US to teach and consult, soon he'll be in Austin on July 9-13 for a full week of training courses with NxtTeam. It's a good thing he doesn't also have to update and maintain his own materials.

NYC Student Discounts on Drupal Training

A friend just sent me a link to a job description. Given that I work at Acquia, and run training, this should not be remarkable. Most of my friends outside of Acquia & Drupal imagine that I must have a line to pools of Drupal developers, designers, and other folks just waiting for work. [Insert knowing laughter from Drupalists the world over here.]

Training @ DrupalCon & Beyond

Wow! It's been an exciting three days so far of DrupalCon. Trainings, meetings, presentations, BOFs, keynotes, booth time, parties, and time with old (and new) friends. For me, I've been meeting partner after partner and getting excited about the year to come.

Before I get to more recap though, I want to highlight a couple events coming up in the coming weeks.

Acquia Podcast 38: Melissa Anderson on Training for Drupal

In this episode I talk with Melissa Anderson about training in Drupal, and how Drupal knowledge and experience can be shared in the community.

Drupal is content first, and that's good

As a Drupal trainer, I am very interested in the results of usability testing because it often chimes with the same observations we make of new users as they learn Drupal. One finding in particular strikes a chord for those who are new to theming:

For most jobseekers, the current job market is brutal, at best. Drupal developers and designers, on the other hand, can still find a variety of job openings for Drupal talent. In response to the demand, Acquia created Acquia U, a training and employment program for college graduates and career changers.

How to use Hello Drupal

If you're running a business around Drupal services, giving talks and presentations is great way to highlight your own expertise and get the word out about Drupal. Preparation, however, takes time.
