Omar is a leader, follower, consultant, designer, information architect, implementer, project manager, trainer, communicator, public speaker, strategist, visionary, entrepreneur, traveller... and then some. He's analytical, multidisciplinary, organized, adaptable, dependable, amicable... and a little too humble to continue this list. :-)
Omar built his first website in 1995 and has been using Drupal since 2001. In 2004, he co-founded Koumbit.org, one of the first Drupal shops in Canada, and soon became recognized as Montreal's preeminent Drupal evangelist. He leveraged this position by organizing the first Annual Montreal DrupalCamp in 2006 and has been an integral part of the active local community ever since.
More recently, Omar went back to providing freelance consulting services to non-profit advocacy organizations and larger institutional clients. All told, he has worked on over 50 sites and has a solid grasp of pretty much every aspect of the Drupal the production cycle.
Omar is a strong believer in the power and value of Free, Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS) and is a board member of both the Montreal Drupal Association and FACIL, a non-profit which advocates for the appropriation of FLOSS and open data standards.
But there's more to life than just Drupal and FLOSS. Omar has a passion for learning which, most recently, has been focussed on developing a nuanced understanding of the science underlying the rapidly evolving biotechnology industry. He has also travelled extensively, having lived in Zambia for a couple years and visited 36 countries so far.
