What to do with Big Data? CDOs May Have the Answer
One of the biggest challenges digital executives face today is figuring out what to do with it all the data. There is so much data collected today about shopping habits, travel patterns or even activities logged, that being able to effectively track and leverage this data to improve an aspect of the consumer experience or predict a certain market outcome is essential to a company’s growth.
Many brands have budgets set aside for big data solutions, yet not many know what to purchase and how they’ll use it. At SXSW in Austin this past week, one of the panels I attended focused on brand consistency and voice using big data. The question: “How do you take all of this data and find meaningful ways to leverage it as metrics, social data or other strategic implementations that will better engage with your audience?”
WWW Turns 25, Now Watch It Disappear
Having marked the 25th anniversary of the World Wide Web, we’ve reached a point where we’re about to see it start fading away.
Well, not disappear, really. Just slowly become invisible.
Already, the idea of “going to a website” is beginning to seem quaint. Apps are rapidly supplanting web pages. As part of this move to apps, we’re quickly moving to smartphones and tablets, leaving desktops and even laptops behind.
CDO Club Identifies the Top Ten Most Influential Chief Digital Officers on Klout
Who are the most influential online Chief Digital Officers (CDOs)?
According to newly released data from the CDO Club and the influence ranking site Klout, two CDOs are tied as number one: Sree Sreenivasan, Chief Digital Officer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, along with Jason Hirschhorn, former CDO at MTV. Both have earned a Klout score of 81.
The Top Tech Innovation Trends of 2014
At SXSW down in Austin, you’ll find everything from wearable technology to new social media platforms and even disruptive food trucks and pedicabs (yes, you heard that right). But one thing that has carried over from the Consumer Electronics Show and into SXSW is discussion around top technology innovation brands. Who is being the most disruptive and how are they going to change the world as we know it?

Imagine a type of connected device that not only is fashionable and functional, but takes your collected data and personalizes it to fit your needs, ultimately improving your quality of life. Wearable technology, while still “young,” is in fact headed in that direction.
Wearable technology is the latest wave of innovation. Here at in Austin, you’ll find at least five sessions a day on the connected body and wearables. I attended a panel on my third day here at SXSW called, “The Connected Body: Can We Get Value From Wearables?” And of course, I have the same questions.
The Hacker and Hustler: How to Code a Great Company
It all starts with a great idea, something you think will change the world. What’s next? Well, for Dries Buytaert, the creator of Drupal and a hacker by trade, he wanted to take his great idea and build a company around it.
Drupal was his college dorm side project, initially created as a sounding board for himself and his classmates. Drupal was slowly gaining traction and adoption, but it wasn’t until Dries had to spend many late nights helping MTV with its Drupal sites that he had the big idea. Why not build a company around Drupal support, helping brands better leverage this open source technology?
