Four Reasons I'm Excited About Attending (my first!) SXSW 2014
by Tom Wentworth
Next week I'm attending my first ever South by Southwest in Austin. I'm pretty sure SXSW is the first conference I've ever *attended.* I've worked many conferences either as an exhibitor or speaker, but I've never experienced a conference as an attendee. I'll bring my comfy shoes, plenty of charging devices + cables, lots of business cards, and as much energy as possible to stay out past my usual bedtime of 10pm!
Here's what I'm most looking forward to:
Hearing from the Hacker and the Hustler
I'm really looking forward to watching my colleagues Tom Erickson and Dries Buytaert present a SXSW "core conversation" session on how successful startups need a hacker and a hustler. Dries and Tom will talk about Acquia's journey from startup to one of the fastest growing tech companies in the world.
Acquia is thrilled to be sponsoring parties with the cool kids from two of my favorite tech companies, Dyn and Marketo.
New Hampshire's own Dyn throws legendary SXSW parties, and makes great internet performance technology. This is going to be a fantastic party, with some great music from Deer Tick and many others. Thanks so much to Dyn for letting us be a part of this event. Trust me, you want to be at this one!
Acquia is also sponsoring the Marketing-a-Go-Go Party with Marketo. This one is for all my friends in sales and marketing.
SXSW always has a great lineup of speakers, and I'm looking forward to hearing from people like Ben Horowitz, Kristina Halvorson, and Aaron Levie and many more. I'm still working on my schedule, but there is an overwhelming amount of great content.
Meeting New People
I'd love to meet fellow Acquia or Drupal users, B2B tech marketers, people from the greatest state in the union (New Hampshire, duh). I'm coming to SXSW with a fully loaded expense account, so if you'd like to grab a beer, please reach out to me.
If you've been to SXSW before and have any suggestions or tip you can share with me, add them to the comments! And I hope to see you there.
