Acquia Launches Acquia Search, Drupal Cloud-Based Hosting, and Drupal Stack Installers for Windows and Mac

Expanded Offerings Build On Strong Customer and Partner Momentum

ANDOVER, MA – March 4, 2009 – Acquia today announced the public beta release of Acquia Search, as well as the immediate availability of cloud-based Drupal hosting and Drupal Stack Installers for Windows and Mac. Acquia also announced it has surpassed 45 customers and 50 partners, demonstrating the company’s strong momentum in the market since it launched Acquia Drupal, the Acquia Network, and the Acquia Partner Program last autumn.

“We are very excited about launching Acquia Search and our hosting capability,” said Tom Erickson, Acquia chief executive officer. “These are two key steps in our efforts to simplify and expand Drupal adoption.”

"Acquia subscriptions are a great fit for us because when we use open source technology on the enterprise level, we look for commercial vendors for support," said Rick Mann, Florida Hospital's Business Applications Team. "Open source software decisions are made easier knowing there is someone we can call when we have questions or something goes wrong."

Acquia Search, a hosted Acquia Network service, can be installed as a module on any Drupal 6 site. Acquia Search delivers the capabilities of the Apache Solr search platform as a web service to Drupal websites of any size. Acquia Search results in a dramatically improved search experience through the use of faceted search navigation, content recommendations, and configurable results weighting. Acquia Search is built on a redundant hosted service infrastructure, with no servers to deploy or manage. During the public beta, Acquia Search is available free with any Acquia Network subscription. Free Acquia Network trials are available at http://acquia.com/trial.

"Providing search as a cloud-based service via an open source solution has the potential to draw the attention of enterprises interested in new search-based user experiences, such as faceted navigation and content recommendations. Especially at a time when it may be least affordable to invest in software licenses or to build the skills necessary to leverage these advanced open source capabilities," said Larry Cannell, an analyst with the Burton Group.

Acquia also entered the hosting business today with the availability of cloud-based Drupal hosting, providing customers with a one-stop shop for Drupal hosting and enterprise-class support. Targeted at large scale sites seeking to scale Drupal to millions of users and page views, Acquia's Drupal hosting delivers support for multiple server deployments, with high availability and failover support. Pricing is usage-based, offering large-scale websites with a cost-effective mechanism to grow their site to meet changing traffic demands.

“We recognized the demand for increased search functionality and hosted Drupal options from listening to our customers, partners, and the community,” added Dries Buytaert, Acquia co-founder and Drupal creator and project lead. “We are pleased to be adding these offerings to our current solutions, which have been well accepted as demonstrated by our early customer growth.”

Acquia’s Drupal Stack Installers for Windows and Mac make building a website with Drupal easier than ever. Developers can now install the entire open source stack: Linux, Apache Web Server, MySQL, PHP, and Acquia Drupal in just one click on any local machine running Windows or Mac. The Drupal Stack Installers for Windows and Mac are available for free download on Acquia.com. The Drupal Stack Installer for Linux will be available later this year.
